The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

Trainings

The Education Department at The Arc serves families of children with special needs and professionals interested in better serving these families. Two basic areas of training services are offered.

1) Special Education Trainings: To help families and professionals understand and navigate the public school, special education system for children ages 3-21.

Special Education 101: This course is typically offered once monthly from September through May. It is held at The Arc office and provides a thorough overview of the special education process including referral, rights, services, procedural safeguards, least restrictive environment and the meaning of educational progress. 2) Disability Trainings - General and Specific: For more general educational information about special needs, particularly those related to developmental disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, autism and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders we offer basic trainings and informational packets on topics of interest that can be downloaded from this site.

The Right to Learn Program is a service that provides assistance to families of students, ages 3-21, who have disabilities and need specialized special education services from the schools

This program directly helps ensure that students obtain a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Our services are offered in English and Spanish.

Services: 1) direct assistance to parents preparing for A.R.D. (Admission, Review, Dismissal) meetings. 2) Information and referral services
